It is awarded by the national organization that oversees all the German Warmblood breeds; therefore, Hanoverian, Oldenburg, Trakehner, Holsteiner, Westphalian...etc mares (or stallions) all compete against each other for this great honor. (DLG Champion Stallion = Champion of all German stallions)
FEI = Fédération Equestre Internationale, the governing body of international equestrian sport, they make the rules and regulations which all national federations must comply with in any international event, including the Olympic Games.
